Analyzing Pinterest Boards

Students are at the point where they need to analyze their collection of pins (or posts) on their Pinterest boards. They were to find images, take photos themselves, or draw images. Previously, they were asked to complete an aesthetics and identity homework handout. Writing and then finding visuals depicting characteristics from the homework assignments helps them make connections and associations. They can make connections on what types of shapes, textures, colors, symbols, text and fonts they like. What type of rhythm are they drawn to? Seeing all the pins on their board at one time allows them to analyze their content quickly.

The next steps in the project are for the students to create visual images using technology (photoshop and/or the copy machine) and then print them out small to fit on their Scrabble tiles. They will pull 24 images from their board to work with in Photoshop. Issues of color reproduction, readability and legibility will be explored.

These images below show a student’s images on Pinterest. The class had a discussion on how to analyze her board and what she might pull from the board to define her identity. The last image shows a list of items the students need to complete by the next time we meet.
