Getting the students to draw ideas

For this last project, Ms. Burns prepared a simple grid for the students to use when drawing their ideas. They were required to draw 9 different ideas using positive and negative space. We had the students focus on that concept, since they would be cutting out the negative space from their sheet of metal (pewter, cooper or brass). Other elements we discussed were shape, texture and balance. Here is the handout of the drawing grid sheet. I would agree that providing the students with this type of structure is necessary, since they can become easily distracted.

Some of their designs will be challenging to pierce. Overall, the students in this class do a good job in challenging themselves.
