Working with Pinterest

Pinterest is a great website to build a design, creative, conceptual board. I would highly recommend using it with students. They can see all their visual examples quickly and make associations during their design (and artistic) process. We introduced it at the beginning of the semester, but we soon found out that the WiFI at the school was blocking the site for some students. The blocking or “smooth wall” as they call it was not consistent. The students use Chromebooks—they are given the laptops when they become a student. I like this idea, but as new technology is introduced the students do not always have the same versions of hardware and software.

I would recommend that before any “social media site” or any software can be used in the public school system it should be cleared. It did not cross my mind that Pinterest would be blocked. Even though the students are creating “secret” boards it does not matter. We have lost some class time trying to work out the kinks in technology. Hopefully everyone’s Chromebooks will allow Pinterest soon enough. In the meantime, some students use Pinterest on their phones using their G3 or G4 network.

Today we also went over developing a color palette. We went over using the website color.hailpixel.com again. It is a fun and easy way to develop a color palette. Once you decide on your colors, you are also given the Hex color code. We will be using the code in Photoshop. Very helpful.
