Dichroic Demo

Today Ms. Burns introduced the third project—Dichroic glass pendant necklace. The students will be creating two final pendant necklaces using dichroic glass as the emphasis point in the piece. One of their two must also include a linear wire element surrounding the dichroic glass element.

During the entire class students listened to a lecture and watched a demo on various techniques when working with glass. The students also need to complete a design analysis sheet before they jump into designing the dichroic glass pieces. This sheet asks the students to critically think about how they used design elements and principles in their first two projects with potential ideas for their third project. We are asking them to choose what types of similar elements can they integrate and how they can also integrate something new and different.

Ms. Burns lectured on what dichroic glass is, how to work with glass as a material, what type of safety precautions need to be maintained, and demonstrated different design ideas for creating a pendant.
